Cookie policy

As at 26 June 2026. Next scheduled review 26 June 2027.

This policy explains how Kāhu uses cookies and similar technologies, and how you can manage them. Please read it with our Privacy policy. Kāhu is operated by Financial Advice NZ Limited, a licensed financial advice provider (FSP1009051).

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device. Similar technologies include pixels, tags and local storage. They let a site work properly, remember your preferences, and understand how the site is used. Some cookies are set by us and some by third parties whose services we use.

New Zealand does not have a standalone cookies law. Where cookies collect personal information, the Privacy Act 2020 applies and our Privacy policy explains how we handle that information.

The cookies we use

We group cookies by purpose.

[Insert a current cookie table listing each cookie or category, its name, provider, purpose and how long it lasts. Confirm the actual cookies in use before publishing.]

CategoryProviderPurposeDuration
Strictly necessary[confirm]Site function and security[confirm, e.g. session]
Functional[confirm]Remember preferences[confirm]
Analytics[confirm, e.g. Google Analytics / Plausible]Understand site usage[confirm]

Third parties

Some cookies are set by third parties who provide services to us, such as our analytics provider. These third parties may process information under their own privacy terms. The current third parties are listed in the table above. [Confirm and link to each third party’s privacy information.]

How long cookies last

Cookies are either session cookies, which expire when you close your browser, or persistent cookies, which stay on your device until they expire or you delete them. The duration of each cookie is shown in the table above.

How to manage or refuse cookies

You can manage cookies in several ways:

If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the site may not work properly. Blocking analytics or marketing cookies will not stop you using Kāhu.

We treat strictly necessary cookies as essential and set them so the site can work. For analytics and marketing cookies that are not essential, our approach is to [confirm: set them only where you have given consent through our cookie banner / set them by default and allow you to opt out]. We will keep this aligned with the Privacy Act 2020 and current good practice.

Visitors in the EU and UK

If we knowingly offer Kāhu to people in the European Union or the United Kingdom, we will apply a consent banner model consistent with the GDPR and ePrivacy rules, so non-essential cookies are set only after consent. [Confirm whether Kāhu targets or knowingly serves EU or UK users. This point is flagged for legal review.]

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our use of cookies changes. The version date appears at the top. Please check this page for the current version.

Reviewer note

This is a draft for human review. It is not legal advice. Please have the licensed adviser and, on the EU and UK point, a qualified solicitor review and sign off before publication.

Assumptions and placeholders to confirm:

Item flagged for legal sign off: whether Kāhu knowingly serves EU or UK users, which would bring in GDPR and ePrivacy consent requirements. Verify current Privacy Act 2020 guidance and, if relevant, GDPR and ePrivacy requirements before publishing.
